POSITION SUMMARY:  The position is responsible for managing Commercial Property Adjusters, to ensure attainment of objectives, productivity, adherence to company policies and procedures and fulfillment of customer service expectations.  Also responsible for monitoring Independent Adjusters and Claims Technical Coordinators acting as Team Leads during catastrophe events.   The position mandates successful completion of all requirements of Fundamental Claims School, which includes obtaining an overall passing score.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL, BASIC AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION.  THESE FUNCTIONS ARE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF ALL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED.
• Manage activities and personnel of the internal claims unit and external field claim operations including training, development, counseling and performance evaluations.
• Evaluate claims and addresses policy coverage issues in excess of authority.
• Work with insured and external business partners regarding the handling and/or disposition of claims and other issues.
• Communicate effectively with agents, policyholders, Claims Unit personnel, Underwriting, Human Resources, Accounting, Claims Management, Independent Adjusters, and Claims Technical Coordinators acting as Team Leads during catastrophe events.
• Exercise sound judgment regarding claim settlement value, settlement negotiations, policy application, legal principles.
• Recognize need for negotiation, and participate in planning strategy and negotiating within scope of authority.
• Document in a clear and concise manner all information that is relevant to a claim and runs reports as required.
• Keep current on industry activity and trends and reports to upper management.
• Participate in training and mentoring of strategic business partners and staff.
• Conduct Open and Closed File Reviews as well as Field Reinspections to evaluate and document overall operational value.
• Develop and analyze statistical reports.
• Properly delegates settlement authority and utilizes delegated authority effectively.
• Participate in Catastrophe planning, preparation and response (as outlined in Catastrophe Plan)
• Make staffing recommendations to Director of Claims.
• Develop and maintain files on adjusting resources, engineers, salvors, and experts for claim investigations.
• Provide the Claims Director claims-related information as it relates to the financial impact of the Company.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Strong leadership and managerial skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of property claims practices and legal terminology
• Strong analytical and negotiation skills
• Ability to manage budgets
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to initiate, organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple & complex projects.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field; OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 
• Five years of experience in Property Claims Handling, to include at least three years in Commercial Property.
• Three years supervisory/managerial experience.
• Prior experience with computerized estimating programs
• Active Florida Adjuster license (620) - Appointment Required within 6 months of employment.
• Within 90 days of employment, must successfully complete all requirements of Citizens Fundamental Claims School which includes obtaining an overall passing score.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• MBA OR CPCU, AIC, PLCA or CLCS designation.
• 8 years progressively responsible experience in Commercial Property Claims, three of which in management. 
• Prior experience with Xactimate computerized estimating.
• Prior Commercial Catastrophe Claims handling & management experience.
• Practical understanding of the Florida legal environment.
• Experience with multi billion dollar exposure.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, hear and converse over the telephone, and key frequently on a computer (2 or more hours per day). The position requires the ability to be mobile, operate a motor vehicle, climb roofs and work in a highly energetic and flexible work environment.  This position also requires the ability to travel and work for extended periods in off-site locations.  May be exposed to extreme work conditions during catastrophe deployment including working in outside locations and conducting field inspections catastrophically impacted areas.
