SUMMARY:
- Demonstrate proficiency in estimating, investigation, evaluation and negotiation of 1st and 3rd party high severity Heavy and Specialty Equipment claims.
- Identify and coordinate with appropriate claim resources on coverage issues, subrogation, salvage, and potential fraud opportunities to achieve final claim resolution.
- Heavy and Specialty equipment includes, but is not limited to; recreational motor homes and trailers that contain living quarters, mobile and stationary machinery, which may be affixed to real property and cranes, construction equipment and over the road trucks.  Marine equipment, mining equipment, Agriculture equipment, and Locomotives. 
- Claims averaging $25,000 to $2 million.
- Provide training and assist in the development of field Auto claim staff.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Scope claim, which requires significant research for comparative part and/or equipment values given the unique types of equipment appraised.
- Travel to location of equipment.
- Arrange to view equipment if not readily accessible. Depending on size and situation, could involve coordination with experts and officials to provide access to the equipment (i.e.: crane that is submerged, train that is derailed, etc).
- Identify needed resources and contact experts including scientists, engineers. Manufacturers and other technical resources to provide information that will contribute to the determination of the value in the absence of any formal pricing guidelines for this unique equipment. Utilize these resources where necessary to confirm or refute information provided in the investigation.

Determine coverage.
- Consult with the Auto and Property leaders, Inland Marine, Construction, public sector and associated business insurance leaders to determine coverage.  This consists of reviewing policies, policy amendments and underwriting terms specific to the Heavy Equipment as identified within the business policy. 
- Interpret policy language as relates to the facts of the underlying event and damage to achieve a recommended coverage determination.
- Participate in meetings with internal legal counsel when needed and appropriate.

Establish the physical damage claim value.  
- Through use of expertise and judgment, analyze and process information collected to establish a recommended value.
- Utilize technical expertise and information gathered to make judgment determination of value where scientific method does not exist.
- Negotiate the claim with the customer leveraging appropriate resources and achieve agreement on value.
- Determine settlement amount and provide to the assigned Claim Representative for payment
- Achieve authorization to initiate payment to the customer.  This may include presentation of facts gathered to appropriate leadership, depending on settlement amount and authority level.
- Document estimate of physical damage and claim exposure on first and third party high severity claims, according to applicable regulatory and corporate guidelines, using company recognized computer soft and web ware.

Partner with internal resources throughout the life of the claim.  Resources could include Property, Auto, Auto Liability, Subrogation, SIU and other internal resources appropriate to the specific claim type.  Partnership from initial investigation through final recovery to ensure appropriate claim resolution and pursuit of alternative recovery sources.

Train, mentor and assist in the development of field Auto claim staff (inside and outside) on effective and accurate handling of Heavy/Specialty Equipment physical damage claims for values up to approximately $25,000

Provide expertise to underwriting and other business leaders to influence future policy pricing and underwriting feasibility of specific specialty and heavy equipment amendments based on information gained through investigations. 

The following duties are concurrent with those listed above:
- Appropriately control claim values, including loss of use and rental reimbursement, through use of cost containment tools.
- Provide operational intelligence to Travelers business partners to assist in appropriately underwriting and evaluating new and existing business accounts.
- Maintain continuous and effective communication with Agents, Claim Staff and related business partners on assigned claims.
- Extensive overnight travel for inspections on first and third party claims as assigned.
- Participate in the Heavy/Specialty Equipment Large Loss Review process as needed.
- Attend company and industry training classes as required to maintain business certifications as well as claim and technical expertise.
- Participate in catastrophe response as needed.
- Accurate and timely reporting of travel expenses, time off, special project, etc. as required.

EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:
College or Technical School Degree Strongly Preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 5 to 10 years related appraisal experience, preferably with an insurance company.
- Strong technical background including extensive knowledge of heavy and specialty equipment, auto repair and repair techniques, including thorough understanding of heavy/specialty equipment terminology and construction, Claim handling and Business Insurance policy knowledge to handle complex claims average value $25,000 to $2 million.

CERTIFICATES/DEGREES:
- Professional License, Registration, or Certificate is required to hold this position depending upon state regulations.

- I-CAR Gold Class Professional level in Collision Repair preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Knowledge of claims appraisal systems and overall claim operations, Windows proficiency, including Excel and Word.

- Advanced mathematical and computer proficiency skills.

OTHER:
- Ability to mentor, train and develop Auto claim staff. 
- Ability to regularly and promptly travel extended distances, with little or no advance notice, demonstrating effective planning, expense and cost control skills.
- Understanding of Privacy Act when dealing with personal and confidential information
- Ability to remain current on jurisdictional laws and regulations, and communicating compliance requirements to other claim staff as appropriate.
- Commitment to continuous education.
- Demonstrated ownership attitude and customer centric response to all assigned tasks.
- Valid drivers license and good driving record.

NOTE: This position is for placement in North Texas (Dallas area) or Oklahoma. Easy access to a major airport is required for this postion.
