The Claims Technical Specialist will investigate and evaluate coverage, liability, and damages on assigned claims, determined appropriate reserves and settlement values, and resolve claims on merits. Claim inventory complexity will range form complex to high exposure claims and files in litigation. This position will direct defense counsel on litigated files, as well as attend mediations and trials, as necessary. The Claims Technical Specialist will work independently with minimal direct supervision and resolve claims within designated monetary authority. This position will present claims, if required, to senior management at monthly Claims Advisory meeting and update the Claims Advisory master spreadsheet regarding his/her respective claims. The Claims Technical Specialist will attend 90-day lawsuit review and present litigated files with action plan; conduct training and provide technical assistance on complex claims to claims department associates, as assigned, as well as prepare appropriate reinsurance reports and timely updates. This position will participate in claims audits and other special projects, as assigned. The Claims Technical Specialist must have both commercial and personal lines expertise.
BA/BS Degree is required and other e.g. CPCU. Candidate must have eight years of commercial and personal lines technical claims experience. Candidate must possess strong oral and written communications skills to effectively and professionally communicate with internal and external customers, be proficient in keyboarding (must type 40 WPM) and basic computer skills (Microsoft Word). The Claims Technical Specialist must possess excellent coverage evaluation, liability assessment and damage analysis skills, strong litigation management skills as well as a superior negotiating ability. Candidate must be self-motivated and possess the ability to plan effectively and efficiently, organize and handle multiple priorities while working independently; maintain files and documented accurately and timely with appropriate follow-up. Candidate must be a strong team player with a positive attitude as well as tolerant to stress and change. Candidate must possess a 620 license; however an AS 400 license would be consider a plus.
