Job Description:
In this position you will provide the highest level of technical direction to the auto, professional, employer, and general liability claims staff involving complex coverage and significant loss exposures on a corporate wide basis. You will ensure claims compliance with corporate policies and procedures and directly handle corporate liability claims. You will manage a specialized unit of claim professionals.
Additional Responsibilities:
Provide strategic and technical claims leadership to the regional claims staff in the investigation and handling of all referred claims. Ensure claim management and case reserves are consistent with company guidelines and philosophy. Provide daily coaching to the regional and corporate claims staff on coverage, investigation, evaluation and reserving. Extend settlement authority on all referred claims. Select, train and manage staff. Responsible for ensuring execution of the centralized Legal Bill Advisor unit. Assemble and analyze regional and corporate claim results data to evaluate quality status and identify training needs or other action. Maintain technical and regulatory expertise in all assigned jurisdictions. Monitors judicial and legislative entities to promptly identify, analyze and communicate changes impacting jurisdictional exposures and claim handling impact. Participate with regional claims management in the evaluation process of staff and panel counsel. Make recommendations for the addition / deletion of counsel. Promptly investigate all assigned claims for coverage, liability, damages, subrogation and contribution.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree preferred with 7 or more years of equivalent work experience in an insurance related industry required. Advanced skills in coverage analysis, negligence principles, investigative and negotiation techniques. Strong knowledge of Auto Liability, General Liability, Professional Liability and Employer Liability claims. Extensive knowledge of P&C regulations and applicable law, preferably in multiple jurisdictions. Extensive knowledge of insurance contracts and adjusting techniques. Familiarity with medical terminology, legal procedures and claim evaluation. Demonstrated leadership, coaching, influencing, teamwork skills. Computer literacy, i.e. WORD, Excel, PowerPoint. Previous supervisory experience required. Chartered Property Casualty Insurance (CPCU); Associate in Claims (AIC), Senior Claim Law Associate (SCLA) designation or similar professional designation preferred. Strong litigation and vendor management skills Willingness to travel for business purposes; approximately 25% Obtain and maintain state adjusting licenses, as necessary.
